My interview with SaharaTV on Nigeria’s ‘Jail the Gays’ bill and the hate comments

My interview with SaharaTV on Nigeria’s ‘Jail The Gays’ bill.

Laughing and shaking my head at the homophobic, ignorant comments of Nigerians on this Sahara Reporters facebook post featuring my Interview with SaharaTV on the Nigeria’s Jail the Gays bill.

It is said that fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering and violence.

Already a few are calling for me to be stoned to death.

It really is easy to hate, it takes courage to Love. If only these ignoramuses conquer their fear by opening their mind to logic and love, Nigeria, nay, the world would be a better place for all.

Kindly sign the petition against the jail the gay bill

How is it a democracy if you discriminate against your citizens because of their sexual orientation?

How is it a secular state if you quote your Skydaddy when enacting state laws and policies?

I did not fight for democracy to clear the way for a bunch of clueless ignoramuses to enact laws that violate my fundamental human rights.

Get educated, tame your ignorance, stop the hate.

Yikes, not used to seeing that much bile in one place. Popped on with one comment about the “unnatural” rubbish, if anyone looks at the link then I don’t know how they’ll rationalise 1,500 species being homosexual while it also being “unnatural”…

The amount of “western” sickness stuff surprised me -- almost right as its the christianity they contracted from western missionaries that’s caused a lot of the sickness.

I love the commenter who claims that it’s a “gross violation of human rights” to deprive the (hypothetical) 90% who would support the bill of their right to enact the law.

Clearly that would be a much more serious violation of human rights than throwing someone in prison for being sexually attracted to the “wrong” gender.

@oolon Yeah, I know, so much hate and ignorance in one place is almost unbelievable!

Yeah your comment about the 1,500 animal species being homosexual is great, it is one i have used many times, unfortunately they hardly listen to reason. I will pop around there later to post a message pic on that for those who can’t be bothered to read the link to at least stare at the pic and its short message.

I keep telling them that Christianity and Islam are the western imports not homosexuality, but do they ever listen?

I truly don’t understand how anyone with a working brain would think that qualifies as a valid argument, yet it is one that keeps popping up whenever the topic is sexual minorities’ rights. I wrote a blog post on that so that I do not have to keep repeating myself to the homophobes http://wp.me/p3uryi-2P
I will post the link for the guy to get educated, and just hope the homophobes read and comprehend with an open mind.

Hey Yemmy -- I hope you won’t mind me asking, but is there a concern about colonialism if I, a Canadian who was UK-born, sign a petition asking the President not to sign the bill?

Not so much from you, I mean, more is there a risk that if many of us from overseas sign it, that the President will end up holding it up as proof that it’s all a Western plot. I will certainly go now to sign with happiness because of your recommendation, because I agree completely, I just wondered whether this has a chance to backfire on you?

I hope not, anyway. Glad you’re on the front page now! Much easier to keep up. 🙂

  6. Yemisi Ilesanmi says

CaitieCat Thanks! I understand your concern but as i said in my interview, it would be very childish of the president to claim he is justified to sign an oppressive bill into law just because the foreigners told him not to oppress his citizens. When he claims “Equality” is a western plot, as he probably would, we will gladly point out the ignorance inherent in that statement to him . 🙂

We appreciate that this is a HUMAN RIGHT ISSUE , therefore should concern every progressive human being regardless of skin colour, race, gender, geographical location or sexual orientation. We appreciate every signature because it is one more human voice standing up for equality across borders.

Please do sign and share as widely as possible. It is not about the geographical location, it is about our shared humanity, thanks.

Glad i am now easy to find on the front page of FTB! 🙂

My pleasure, already have signed and shared. Your recommendation was enough for that, I assumed you’d considered it, I just wondered how it would play out (I don’t have the bandwidth for much video, so I don’t tend to watch it unless I have to).

    Thanks for answering!
