Monday, I drove down to Baltimore to disassemble and re-wire my parents’ entertainment system. I swapped out a first-generation DVD player for a new little Sony blu-ray player with an HDMI connector, and that made the remaining problem one of plugging a couple of wires into the back of the flat panel. I was supposed to get there around lunchtime but I was an hour late because of America.
Apparently some parts of the “trucker convoy” have evaporated, due to disinterest.
I’m a bit suspicious about the flood of “brave Ukrainian resistance” stories. Some of them are already revealed to be false, e.g.: “The Ghost of Kyiv” was a well-executed 3d rendering. The Russians are taking casualties but they’re par for the course and they won’t be minding them, although the NATO alliance has admitted that they are flooding the country with newer, better anti-tank missiles and related gear.
The “DEFCON” (defense condition) system is a threat-display, now, but during the early cold war it was important.
The surveillance state has done a great job of conditioning our social response to what amounts to a massive violation of the constitution. Of course nobody cares. The information has been dropped in a way that nobody really understands it, and that is quite deliberate.
