Yesterday, I had a lot of reasons to think about the question of mechanical advantage involving ladders. The 40-foot extension ladder that I ordered (one has to special-order such things) finally arrived and it was time to clean out the gutter on the upper edge of my house.
Whoever came up with that stupid, cruel, “boil a frog slowly” story? It’s wrong at many levels.
I recently ran into one of the tried-and-boring christian come-backs against atheism: “if you don’t believe in god, how can you find joy in your life?” You know, that kind of yawner.
I suspect this is the same in most states in the US, right now: you go through a maze of websites and eventually sign up to get the COVID-19 vaccine, perhaps getting a text message to verify that you can be reached.
When I came up with the name “stderr” for this blog, I was thinking about the way that the error-stream is unbuffered; that means that things come out in the order that they are printed, sort of like how I speak/write: blah blah blah unfiltered and there’s no “pause” button.
In my previous episode on hypnosis, [stderr] I began by framing my views on the topic by dividing it into two separate things, stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I’m going to stand by that distinction, as I think it’s useful – but I’ve got a bunch of new angles that I need to add to my notes.
