Thanks for another year!
Thanks for another year!
Coming home and finding your house a smouldering wreckage, burned down to the foundation – that’s not what happened to me. For some reason, though, I dread it; it’s why I have a whole mental check-list I run through before I depart and arrive, walking down the list of systems that need to be turned off (or on) when I am home or away.
I landed at Washington, Dulles around 8:00pm last night and hit the road for the 3hr drive back up to the farm. So (allowing for bathroom and drink breaks) I got home around midnight, roared into the dark and dust called “my driveway” and up to the house, to be greeted by this:
One of the reasons I hate spam and spammers is because it’s bad marketing.
I sometimes mail people stuff!
For the last year+ I have been referencing movies and books using links to Amazon.
I’m going to get to see Lisbon, with a bit of luck, but only from the connecting cattle-chute. This week coming up I’ll be speaking at the IT-Defense conference in Munich, [itd] so I am not sure whether I’ll be writing much, or not. It’s going to depend on internet access, jet lag, airport security, connections, and a host of other factors.
Since the airlines screw local airport flights, I get to drive 3hr down to Washington, in order to have an affordable flight (Washington always seems to have the cheapest flights on the east coast) so I’m just going to pay attention to getting there. I’ve got a copy of a book of speeches by Howard Zinn to keep me uplifted and some books about the industrial revolution to crush me back down, again.
I don’t expect I’ll go completely silent, but I’ll be home Friday, with a bit of luck.
They also may not. Either way, if I do manage to post, I almost certainly will be avoiding any topics except those related to what I’ll be doing (unless something really captivating occurs, like Trump gets arrested, or Benghazi!) I’m going to be heading out to Bend, Oregon (vicinity) on the 1st, working on a childhood dream.
I have to make a sudden trip out to Los Angeles, and I have no idea if my writing and commenting schedule will be impacted. This is one of those “it’s either going to be very boring” or “it’s going to be very busy and exciting” trips and I don’t know which, yet.
I’d like to mention something: I do not intend to have a specific posting schedule. I have been tending to post something in the morning and the evening, but I have been noticing lately that I am having way too much fun blogging and there are projects and code and reports that aren’t getting done in as timely a manner. So, what I may do is drop down to one posting a day (approximately) If you want to check on what’s up here, 7-8pm EST is a good time to look.
On the other hand, the beauty of blogs is that they are asynchronous. So you’re welcome to drop by whenever you want, and I’ll drop postings whenever I want, and we can all link hands and sing “Kumbaya.”
… I’m going to a small conference up in Chicago the next couple days. So I’ll be driving (to avoid the homeland security fol-de-rol) and otherwise may be too occupied to say much. If I seem uncharacteristically quiet, that’s what’s what. It doesn’t mean I hate you, or you’re the last commenter standing. Whether I post or not is going to depend on my activity level at the event.
