This is an oft-repeated story in America: a suspect is sitting in a car, and several police appear with guns drawn, then pepper the car and suspect with bullets. Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done.

There’s a lot of talk going around about whether there’s going to be a civil war in the US. If you’re worried about that, let me adjust your fears, slightly. The situation is dangerous, and we should collectively respond by ruthlessly disempowering the republican party, then turning on the democrats and forcing them to split into progressives and centrists – and then controlling their agenda. That probably won’t happen, so let me just console you about the civil war.
If the US political news weren’t already over-saturated with the smoke and flames from the multiple murder dumpster fire that is the executive branch, maybe there would be some attention spared for the tragedy of another oligarch whose turn it is, having to actually struggle to access power.
Some of you have doubtless heard of the Haymarket Affair.
I have written before about the battle of Matewan, [stderr] which was a small engagement in what later was known as “The Coal War.”
Riots (excuse me, “protests”) are the history of labor in the US. Probably pretty much of the rest of the world, too. In the US, we’re not taught about them in school – instead we are taught that the police are basically great people, who are here to protect us, and the national guard’s job is to pull cats down from trees when there’s a flood.
None of that is true.
PS: happy Oligarchy Day!
You may recall when a disturbed Trump fan sent a bunch of fake bombs to various media people and Trump critics. [stderr]
I was listening to this episode of Snap Judgement podcast [the country doctor] and found my eyes kept filling with tears of shame and sorrow. As I listened, I realized that they were exposing the true core of “down home” America: racist but above all ignorant chucklefucks who don’t think – they robotically adopt the attitudes of their collective at church, and what they hear on TV.
I had a depressing realization the other day: Bernie Sanders is not a threat to the system.
