Americans don’t seem to realize how completely inauthentic campaign rallies and caucuses are. Consequently, we have a huge discussion about what Trump said or didn’t say, supported or didn’t support. I hate it when people who know something is bullshit pretend that it’s not, because they’re committing bullshit too.

I have come to see James Baldwin as one of the greatest American writers. 
His writing flows perfectly from soft and thoughtful to adamantine; it’s hard for me to describe it because I don’t play at that level and I never will.

Racial segregation has probably done more to shape American cities than any other factor. The Guardian [guard] has a thoughtful and very deep article about the structural effects of inequality on some cities – including Baltimore, Maryland, where I grew up.
