I used to post a lot of stock photography on deviantart [da] and over the course of a few years I managed to accrue 10 million page-views with 75,000+ followers.
Coming in over Iceland, I had turned my cell phone off and stowed it; I had a window seat over the wing so “why bother”?
Icelandair, the original “hippie express” used to offer flights between the US and Europe for about half what the other air carriers charged. Their strategy was pretty cool – they used less expensive jets with shorter range, and did a brief stopover to refuel at Keflavik Airport in Iceland.

This appeals to my sense of the absurd. Instead of taking an AI and training it to turn photographs into converted images “in the style of” some training set, what if we plug the pipeline in backwards?
All my life I’ve been embarrassingly lucky. Ever since I did such a fantastic job of picking my parents, I just seem to stumble into the things I need when I need them. I don’t kid myself that it’s anything to do with skill or merit but I’ll take it. Some of you may hate me by the end of this posting, but I’ll try to make it up to you.

A few years ago I was on a subway in New York (museuming!) and there was a guy there who was wearing hunting camouflage from head to toe. Unfortunately, I didn’t think he was being ironic; he wasn’t going against cultural norms, in fact he appeared to be trying to stereotype “game hunter” toxic masculinity. But, the image stuck in my mind. I can’t find the picture I shot with my phone, so you’ll have to imagine a gooner standing in a subway car full of New Yorkers, dressed like a mighty white hunter.
