Soldiers would like to tell us that they are tough and manly, dripping with toxic masculinity juice that you can smell from miles away. Sometimes, that’s even true. But other times you’ve just got to stand back and admire the fashions (such as wearing a corset under all the tight napoleonic cavalry kit).
I am going to stand by my prediction that we won’t have a civil war. In fact, I grow more certain of that all the time. We may, however, have some civil unrest. That’s OK – we’re always going to have some of that, because Americans are violent and stupid, and our national identity depends on a form of violent, stupid, toxic individualism.
This is for any of you who’ve been part of a dysfunctional organization, and had to deal with someone who has whole-heartedly absorbed the marketing bullet points of ${something}.
This is an oft-repeated story in America: a suspect is sitting in a car, and several police appear with guns drawn, then pepper the car and suspect with bullets. Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done.
This is embarrassing but I’ve just got to rant a little bit about “conservatives” and conservative pride in their ignorance.
WARNING : Sex crimes references incl. child rape. Quite graphic, confronting and likely upsetting.
This needs a big disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, but.
I’m amazed that nobody seems to be pointing this out.
I’m sure that racists would come up for other ‘reasons’ for their hatred (perhaps they’d blame it on hiphop) but, unfortunately, for now, we’re stuck with pseudoscience.
I make no attempt to conceal the fact that I am a moral nihilist. No, that does not mean I want the world to end in blood and fire – it just means that I am unconvinced by the arguments I’ve heard, so far, that it’s possible to establish a useful, shared, long-term, notion of “right” and “wrong” that is not just someone’s opinion. But my interest in the topic has led me to do a lot of reading because I think it would be nice – unfortunately, so far, I don’t buy it.
