Stop, Thief!

The first thought of the morning is about the wondrous harvest of walnuts I expect to be collecting today. After hot coffee and a very satisfying breakfast, I walk out into the backyard and see…

WHAT KIND OF A MONSTER?? ©rq, all rights reserved.

To be fair, I also suspect two bird species of participating in this massacre, but I have the evidence of my eyes that this is, in fact, the work of a large rodent-like animal. Evidence:

But will you look at that pretty face?

Who, moi? ©rq, all rights reserved.

Weeelll… Jury’s still out, I guess. There’s crows and jays around, and I have seen real squirrels creeping around the walnut tree.

In other words, I think this is a conspiracy of animals dividing the spoils without consulting us humans. How dare they!

Well, if it was your prime suspect, I know sieving and washing the next day’s excrement would be conclusive.
Based on the debris, personally I would suspect a horde of fluffy-tailed rodents, based upon what I see in my yard with many trees with many fluffy-tails each half a world way.

My dogs would crunch a walnut, just to taste what I am eating, look at me with WTF? Why?, spit them out, and go sulk for a bit. I’d tell them Nutmeats! They’d glare back, “That ain’t Meat!”!
He’s just pointing at evidence, and his nose Knows who.

Thanks for the Tina Guo, C would have loved it, One of my favorite cellists.

    Thanks for the Tina Guo

I fell in love with her hat.

This dog actually enjoys the nuts, although to her it’s more of a game of who collects more. If she hears one falling, she’ll rush to get to it first (the confusion begins when there’s several falling all at once…). And then it’s CRUNCH, LOOK AT ME!!! and walnut shells all over the steps. I think she likes the taste, though. *shrug* Dogs is weird.

But yeah… she doesn’t look at all innocent in that last photo. :D
