My beautiful fabric is here, so there will soon be much horse painting, and my Marty Two Bulls T-shirt has arrived, aaaaand, does anyone want a spider? I had made that as a computer cover, but it’s not needed anymore, so it’s up for grabs. Umm, it’s approx. 21″ x 13″. I have to wash it first, but then it will be ready to go. Also, Giliell, the horses are on their way to you!

The real spider which lives at the rear of the monitor of my old computer came running — well, swinging on a strand of silk — at the mention of cyberspider. However, he(? she? I’m unsure) is a critic, and is now on his back, waving all eight legs in the air, shooting out strands of amazingly wiggly silk everywhere, and making rather faint noises — either laughter, screams, farts, or perhaps coughing from an excess of horsdeers. I’m not at all certain what any of those signals mean, but cyberspider obviously caused a reaction.
Blf, that would be because Spider is a representation of Iktomi.
Unktomi! The trickster spider!! Apologies, I didn’t recognise the symbolism — but yeah, as I recall (and your link confirms), Unkmoti (or Iktomi as you’re spelling it) is a practical joker, so the spider still on the desk here is perhaps laughing.
The spider is beautiful. I fear that Husband would freak if I put such a thing out in public, though -- he’s bad enough with my art dolls. Come to think of it, a spider art doll, there’s an idea…
The spider is lovely.
Anne:
Yes, that’s an idea. A lovely idea. Even better -- Smudge Fire Spider Dolls!
Menyambal, thank you!
The spider is lovely, and then some. I have a four y/o that would love just such a spider doll.
Caine @ 6:
Take my money! :-)
(Again, thank you for the book recs.)
Jim:
Mine too! I would so pay for a Smudge Fire Spider doll a la the drawing Isaac did in, um, Unbound -- the one Juan Ponce de Leon liked, with Smudge in his own little dirigible, and eight-lenses goggles. :D
Raucous Indignation:
Unfortunately, mine isn’t a doll, but if anyone wants it, just holler, and let me know where to send it.

I’m starting to wonder if it’s possible to take it and make it into a stuffed animal by sewing it a backside and filling it up with stuffing.
I think I’m about to raise my hand…
Also, is Iktomi any relation to Anansi?
rq:
I don’t see why not, as long as you cut enough of a margin around to keep the embroidery intact, it should be doable. I’ll be happy to send it, just let me know where. Also, no, no relation. But there’s nothing to stop anyone from thinking spider is Anansi, either.
Raucous Indignation
If the kiddo loves spiders, here’s a fun project for which you can use all those single socks that accumulate. The head/body is two socks sewn together, everything else is just stuffed socks.

Let’s see how long the various postal services need this time…
Giliell:
Hopefully not long. Our tiny post office about had a fit because German addresses aren’t like American ones! Fuckin’ A. I have the tracking number.
