LOL! Hilarious. “Sea Shoggoths”. The smiling, empty-eyed people staring at them appear to be trying to escape.
I raise fish from time to time so I am obliged to hatch out “Sea Shoggoths” to feed the fry. In some cases the fry are so tiny they cannot yet eat those and so I provide plankton until they are large enough. I can just imagine how surprised my guests would be if I presented “Sea Shoggoths” as pets. They would be surprised, all right… I imagine they would suddenly have all sorts of obligations elsewhere and would back slowly from the room…
The original ads were like this one. I wonder how many people fell for this…

My sibling and I, we ordered Sea Monkeys.
It was a most excellent lesson.
50+ years ago and I have never fallen for advertising since.

I think that ad above is even using the same artwork as the “Sea Monkeys” ads from long ago. At least it triggers memories of the artwork from those ads.
I can’t help but think of the South Park episode when Cartman orders some and the results are hilarious.
