Yay me. Yesterday was my 50th birthday. For those extremely quick on the uptake, that means I was born on Friday the 13th. If my life is anything to go by, the superstitions regarding that date do seem somewhat justified, though not entirely – I was very lucky in some ways, but even more unlucky in others. And from my personal perspective, the balance was shifted towards “unlucky” where it mattered to me. It is most probable that I am well into the second half of my lifespan now, and only time will tell how that turns out. I expect things to get only worse, tbh.
I spent the day working and forgetting that I wanted to write this post entirely.

Welcome to the old people’s club! We have experience, wisdom (at least some of us), drawers full of weird stuff, should you need to borrow something, and great compassion for each other when we inevitably begin to fail.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday Charly, may your gardens be green and your harvests rich!
Congratulations on making it this far.
Congrats!
dint know yer a month younger than me, you bouncing baby chicken
Congratulations, …. youngster.
And here I had the recollection that you had retired, and so I thought you were a few years older than I am. Of course, here in the USA, retirement age is based on actuarial tables and as workers remain healthy longer the overlords extend the required working time span (by moving SS payments and state-provided Medical care to later and later ages).
Congratulations!
(you spring chicken!)
Congratulations!
Since the others are calling you “youngster”, should I call you “old man”?
I was just like “how can Charly be 50, he’s about my age”, and then I remembered that I’m 47. With every passing year I find it harder to remember how old I am (supposed to be).
I hope you celebrated in your own style and treated yourself.
Congratulations! Being over 50 feels unreal. In many ways (mostly mental, not physical), I don’t feel that different from the 16-year old I was almost 36 years ago or the 20-year-old I was almost 32 years ago. The world has changed quite a lot (already during the four years between 1990 and 1994, more so for Charlie than many others of us).
Congratulations Charly!
50 is just a number. 71 is also just a number. But I prefer 50.
If my father hadn’t died forty years ago, he would be 110 this year.
I remember when he turned 50.
Belated Happy Birthdy from me too.
May it be a great one and ever more power to you! Wishing you all health, happiness & success.
