Rats are remarkably difficult to direct. I have tried -- clean surface, crisp clean paper, a palette full of paint, and Grace, the paint monster…

In such circumstances, she turns away, not remotely interested, and runs off. Paint, for rats, is like certain drugs for humans, an illicit pleasure. When you make it licit, it’s not fun anymore.

Most of it ended up on the floor, and it is my studio, where paint on the floor is no big thing, so it’s okay, really. I liked that green though. I wish they’d picked a colour I didn’t like.
