This is how to bring police departments to heel:
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Officials Cutting $100 Million-$150 Million From LAPD Budget, Funds To Be Reinvested In Communities Of Color
This sort of thing has been tried, before. I believe that NYPD’s budget was cut, once, and the cops went on a “do nothing” strike for a while. That strategy only works if The People value your contribution, though. Perhaps what will result is a feverish scramble to decide who gets pushed under the bus.
Maybe they can sell some of their military weapons; I hear that stuff gets a good price in Afghanistan and on the dark web.
L.A. City Council President Nury Martinez made it official on Wednesday by introducing a motion to cut LAPD funding, “as we reset our priorities in the wake of the murder of #GeorgeFloyd. This is just one small step. We cannot talk about change, we have to be about change,” Martinez tweeted.
It’s an opening move, and it’s a strong one. But it’s only an opening move.
