Prior to the shooting, the gunman had drawn the attention of the church’s security team because he was “acting suspiciously,” minister Jack Cummings told the New York Times. He said the team is composed of congregants who are licensed to carry guns and practise shooting regularly.https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/texas-church-parishioners-kill-man-1.5410404
I am having difficulty comprehending a firearm equipped church security team where I live.

Well, you may be able to beat a sword into a ploughshare, and a spear into a pruning hook, but guns are a little harder to prise from cold, dead hands.
And no, you can’t give Texas back to Mexico; the Mexicans have already suffered enough.

Give Texas back to Mexico?! Absolutely not. Just THINK how much that wall would cost then! (Although…. it would solve the problem of **which side of the Rio Grande to build it on** so there is that…)
Apparently it is NOT too early to politicize an incident, if it plays into the NRA’s hands.
… to some degree, anyhow. Apparently the casualties were the church guards. So “the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun sometimes giving their life.”
Senate Bill 535 took effect in September and clarifies possession of firearms at places of worship. The bill allows licensed handgun owners to legally carry their weapons in churches, synagogues and other houses of worship.
So, the shooter was legally carrying the weapon, up until the moment when he began using it illegally?

@ 5 Marcus It’s not supposed to be comprehensible.
Hey I am a foreigner. Most of the US seems a bit incomprehensible. Texas is like Florida man on drugs?

Apropos to the recent post about accidental military escalation – imagine a society where everyone actually tries to be a good guy with a gun, always prepared to start shooting people who start shooting people. We’d be lucky if it doesn’t immediately escalate into international warfare after someone’s car backfires.

For your attention: The Venerable Bead, a bad book by Richard Condon. It has a scene in which a firefight breaks out at an NRA rally.
