    I like hippos, the contrast between the way they move on ground and the way they move in water amuses me.

    Hippos are most adorable and these are great photos. I like how you can see the bristly hairs on their tiny ears.

    Giliell, I just started thinking about your hippo fandom since I’m reading an interesting Finnish book on Pleistocene-Holocene palaeoecology. It mentions that the common “African” hippo used to live in Europe, up to Germany and England, during previous interglacial periods when the climate was approximately as warm as now. During last ice age the hippo retreated to Africa and then wasn’t able to expand north through Middle East any more when the current interglacial began 10,000 years ago because humans were starting farming in the area and increasing their density and hunting large animals too efficiently.
