Yesterday we saw the hair ice, today it’s needle ice. I had never seen that before either, and Mr still didn’t because he stomped past it without noticing. But I made sure he saw it the next day.

It would be fun to imagine what kind of ephemeral cloth you could weave from such fine fibers.
I had no idea that ice could do that. It’s like thousands of tiny stalactites.
I remember seeing ice like that as a kid. It looked fascinating now and it looks fascinating now.
What it is also reminiscent is asbestos fibers as they are found in the natural state. Luckily, the ice isn’t nearly as hazardous.

First time I saw the photos they made me feel a bit queasy and I figured they were reminding me of something and my brain was doing some kind of association, but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. I had a lightbulb moment reading your comment. Asbestos fibers. That’s exactly it.
