Ice Swimmer says
I love the “big beast” eye in the last.
That tree is also very expressive. And it looks relatively young when compared with the other ash tree from the previous photos, but is already quite interesting and respectable.
There are three of them, and they are all quite beautiful, their branches are sinuous and unusual looking. The bark is odd, the trunks are fully barked, then they go smooth skinned. That really threw me, my first thought was some sort of dogwood, but they aren’t flowering trees.
Anne, Cranky Cat Lady says
Those are very Arthur Rackham trees -- they’re watching everything.
Oh, that’s a grand description, Anne! Yes, they are.
What wonderfully expressive trees to keep company with. The bark on the trunk looks like it belongs to a different plant than the branches do.
That had us good and baffled, too! I’m still not sure about them being Manchurian Ash, but they are beautiful trees. I don’t remember seeing any trees like this before.
