Kengi has had a run of fabulous bird shots, so we will be seeing their work for a while. I just had to start with these, because what is more cute than a wet dinosaur? A wet, blue dinosaur! Click for full size.
Very bedraggled looking, yes. That said, the Blue Jays around here are very enthusiastic bathers, water everywhere!

Wet, blue dinosaur does not look to have enjoyed its morning shower.

I was at Madera Canyon in Southern Az friday (if you’re a birder, it should be on your bucket list of places to visit).
I saw four new ‘life list’ birds: 1) a blue grosbeak (lots of them!); 2) Varied buntings; 3) and elf owl; and 4) an elegant trogon. Not only did I see both the male and female trogon, I spotted their nest. :)

No one told the Blue Jays.

They all sound gorgeous! I haven’t seen any of those. Did you get photos?

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a camera on me, just my cell phone. I snapped some shots of the trogon, just for evidence (it’s a pretty rare bird here in the states), and they are good enough to tell it’s a (male) trogon, but that’s about it. :(

That is one miserable-looking blue jay. These are great character portraits!
