My favorite thing about AI art is that the results are throw-aways. You are not asking a real artist to pour weeks of work and years of skill into something that is, basically, a joke.

The famous Turing Test is one example, but I remember a decade ago having a discussion with a fellow film buff about the eventuality that game engines would allow machinima to replace human actors.
