Wanna See my Pussy?

That’s right, pussy. Not the sort of pussy that ex-presidents like to grab, but instead, kittens, the fluffy, purring variety of pussy that is so crazy cute it will make you go Squeeee! If you think you can handle that much cute, then click on through to meet my new babies.

Jinx is the black and tan floofball on top, and Sophie is the fuzzy calico on the bottom. They are seven weeks old and have been home with us for 2 weeks already. We had planned to bring them home yesterday, but when I chose them 2 weeks ago, the calico was sick. Her eyes were infected, and her nose was caked with gunk.

She was the smallest kitten but the boldest. She marched right up to me on her short, squat little legs and said, “Hi Mommy,” so what else could I do but choose her. I didn’t want to leave here there for another 2 weeks, though. She needed to see a vet ASAP, so we brought her and her brother, who was less bold and needed some coaxing, home then and there. Sophie was at the Dr. the next day and was dewormed, given eye drops and started on probiotics.

She’s been eating well and is doing better since then, but she isn’t really growing. She weighs only 0.58 kg and saw the Dr. again today for another deworming and more probiotics. She is still too small for her vaccinations. Sophie is happy and playful, though, and despite her diminutive size, she is fearless. She leaps off of things with all 4 legs akimbo, a bit like a flying squirrel, landing awkwardly and skittering away at full speed. Jinx, who is bigger than her now, has trouble keeping up. She is a tiny, stubborn, and determined little princess who likes to sleep under her daddy’s beard.

Then there’s my playful and gentle boy, Jinx, who I chose because of his beautiful cream highlights. Jinx has done well since the start, and he is such a good boy.

Happy Jinx. He seems to like it here. ©voyager, all rights reserved.

He used his litter box the minute he arrived and hasn’t had an accident since. How does a 5-week old kitten who has grown up in a barn know to do that? It still amazes me. It was Jinx who litter trained Sophie, and he often helps her groom. He is meticulously clean and seems to watch over his little sister. He has luxurious, big, deep, cup-shaped ears with rounded tips that are black on the back and edged on the front in cream. His coat is full of stripes and spots that seem to change every day as he grows.

So, dear readers, there will be kittens for a while and then there will be cats. Jinx and Sophie are the fifth and sixth cats I’ve raised from kittens, and I love every minute of it. Awake, they are tumbling, rumbling, curious balls of energy that pounce at shadows and entertain. Sleepy, they both like cuddles and purr easily.  Sometimes I find myself just watching them sleep. They are sweet, tiny, living works of art. I feel like the luckiest mommy on earth. I’ll end today with a photo of my Sophie with her eyes bright and her nose finally clean. That remaining black spot on her nose isn’t schmutz – it’s part of her calico charm.

I suspected as much, what with all that kitten art…

They are ridiculously cute. The kind of cute that could tear the fabric of spacetime.

Squee and wow! They have come a long way already.

I love the picture with the coarse* and fluffy hair.

    * = At least mine’s coarse.

BTW, cats naturally want to bury their waste. Last time I litter-trained a kitten, I just put the litterbox in the bathroom, and took him with me every time I went, and he picked up on the idea within 24 hours.

re WMDKitty @6: That was always my experience previously. I have a 14 year-old cat who poops and pees in the box, but she will not bury it. She scratches the edges of the box, the wall, where ever except in the litter to cover her waste. She will occasionally poop on the window shelf or the couch, but she is mostly good about pooping in the box, just not covering it up. I suppose she has some kind of psychological issue, but she is a good cat otherwise. At least the poop is easy to clean up whereas if she peed on the furniture, that would be a more serious problem as far as I am concerned.

    Oh.
    My.
    God.
They are so beautiful. I can imagine watching them sleep. It’s like with babies, you just watch them and are happy.

Kittens in beards is unbearably adorable. They are both beautiful, and they are so lucky to have you to care for them!! ♥

WMDKitty @13: The vast majority of the time, she uses the box. After using the box, she scratches everywhere except in the litter. I use an unscented litter and scoop the waste out often. I took her in when a friend was going to take her to a shelter because she was urinating on their furniture a lot (the kitty, not my friend), probably due to a new dog that they had. We don’t have a dog, just another kitty who is younger. She is a good cat and very loving. We sometimes wonder if she is making some kind of statement, but there doesn’t seem to be a pattern. So we just clean up if she does poop outside the box.

    Adorable fluffballs!
Very glad to hear that Sophie recovered well :)
I love cats, even though I am very allergic to them.
