Thank you, Ice Swimmer! This is their non-breeding plumage. Breeding males are different and quite beautiful, but I’ve never seen one. They are migratory here and when they arrive in autumn they all look like this already.
The light was actually quite harsh here, so much so that everything that was in the shadow had to be completely underexposed, resulting in a black background.
