    Funny thing bout the chokecherry: in local weather-lore, it’s a sign of cold weather to come when the chokecherry blooms, because it tends to bloom toward the end of April, beginning of May, when the last cold temperatures are experienced (though not usually minuses, as we’ve had this year). Due to the extended frosts, the chokecherry hasn’t bloomed yet (everything is overdue) so the running joke is that they’ll bloom right on time for Midsummer’s -- expect a snowstorm in June!
