The Daily Bird #123

I had begged Kengi for some bird shots, because unless I go digging in files, I’m out for the moment, I haven’t had time to dinosaur watch. Kengi gracefully obliged, starting with photos of a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, and you should have seen my jaw drop, amazing captures! Click for full size.

I would never have guessed that a hummingbird feeder was a thing until I looked on ebay just now. Some pretty designs available.

Oh yes, they are a thing, have been for my whole life at least, and I’m sure even before me. My grandmother had a feeder hanging in front of a kitchen window, and I used to sit next to the window and watch the hummingbirds when I was a sproglet.

Beautiful photos, Kengi! My mom used to plant bee balm to attract hummingbirds. I love their outsized personalities, they’re quite bold for such tiny creatures. One of the great pleasures of living where I do is that I can watch the Anna’s hummingbirds year round.

Illinois. Kengi is on the prairie, like me, and the Ruby-throated Hummingbird is the only prairie hummingbird throughout all the Dakotas.

Thanks for responding for me. Yup, Illinois prairie, but also in the middle of a lot of lakes, so wetlands as well. Very bird-friendly area to live.

And thanks to everyone else for your supportive comments on my photos recently. Life has been busy for me, so I haven’t been around the comment sections for awhile (dad has been having health problems including a broken femur). But lurking here has been an enjoyable part of my day when I get the chance!
