The fruit look like tiny angry tomatoes stuck in baby bonnets. :D

Nice shots, Kengi -- I like the little hymenoptera in the middle there, too.

In the shot with the bugs, while I was focusing on the fruit with the tiny bug, I didn’t see the even tinier bug hiding under the petal until I reviewed the picture on the computer.

This was also the first time I actually read up on pokeweed, and was surprised to discover just how poisonous it is. At least to mammals. I already knew the birds love the fruit once it gets ripe based on past experience. Glad I never tried the fruit myself.

Beautiful photos! Pokeberries were always a favored ingredient in childhood mud pies and magic potions. We knew not to eat them but the color of the juice is irresistibly pretty. I wonder if they make a good dye?
