I was flabbergasted when I first heard about gender reveal parties, and my opinion of the idea has only worsened.

Gender reveal parties? During pregnancy? WTF?
I Gargled a bit and the first link was to a page with ideas for gender reveal parties and a video with instructions on how to “make” gender reveal cupcakes (squirting pink or blue filling into a a pit cut into a cupcake, replacing part of the cut bit and covering it with “gender-neutral” frosting). Yuck. I had no idea this was a thing.
When my relatives and acquaintances have had babies, the sex of the baby has been kept secret until birth and the name of the kid has been revealed at the baptism/name giving ceremony (mostly baptism, Evangelical-Lutheran, done a few months after the birth).

In my first message, I apparently mistakenly assumed the cake thing was a reference not to gender reveal parties but some kind of playful folk augury where you predict the baby’s sex from a cake slice or something like that. Not too far off.

Trans people are individuals whose gender identity does not match their prenatally cake augury-assigned gender.
