Friday Feathers

We have many wonderful reader contributions which I’ll post the next week (no, I haven’t forgotten those). For now it’s the rest of the birds that I met walking through a Winter Wonderland.

On the first day I walked past a shrubbery that is always full of birds, but as we were approaching they all flew away, but all in a certain direction. Some landed in that shrubbery and then took off as well. we soon spotted the reason for this:

common buzzard

It’s a common buzzard, but they are not frequent in this particular area as it offers little space for soaring.

Walking further we then saw our usual small friends.

I cannot quite decide between sparrow and lady chaffinch with the back and tail being hidden.

Crows are always slightly out of focus, I’m afraid.

Or hiding.

But you can always count on the tits.

I’m veering ttowards sparrow, but wouldn’t be surprised to be wrong. I think the beak is fatter than a chaffinch would have but I’m no expert and it’s really one of those shots where you need to see the other kind of bird nest to it to be sure. It’s a lovely picture whicheverit is, the sharpness of the hoarfrost contrasting with the fluffed up softness of the bird …

  2. Ice Swimmer says

For me it’s rather the opposite, tits are more out of focus and crows are more in focus. Maybe the autofocus algorithms pick hooded crows better.

The hoarfrost does still make the pictures magical.

I agree with Ice Swimmer, that hoar frost is magical. And your tit is beautiful, as always.

Oh c’mon. Tits just pose for you like that? Because they don’t do that with me. On the other hand crows like me more, it seems. ;)

I vote for lady sparrow too, and she’s looking adorable.
