As I drove by, I saw a dirt-colored cat sitting on a wall staring out over a parking lot.
It even looked cat-like from several angles; I fancied it was slightly disapproving.
It turns out that the glob of mud was only interesting if it was highlit against the parking lot behind. So it only looked vaguely cat-like from a particular spot on the road.
No cat, no cradle.
Are you sure? I think I see some whiskers there.
It could have been a cat golem, though those are usually made out of kitty litter.

That’s an idea that needs a better writer than myself to do it justice. Maybe Charles Stross or HP Lovecraft. Or Stephen King’s sequel to Pet Cemetary
