Don’t Even Think About Semiotics

From a friend whose field is closely related to linguistics and whose master’s program required a whole damn lot of it:

Mufasa: This is linguistics. you can study any aspect of language you want and you will always find structure. Simba: But what is that shadowy place over there? Mufasa: That is semantics. You must never go there.

Simba is instructed by his father about the territory (not the map)

    I didn’t make it past the opening credits.
    The last time I used the word “semiotics” in a sentence was in a university linguistics class in the early 1970s.
