While we’re at it, the Daily Fail can fuck off too

I apparently have to start a series like this.

The Daily Mail, July 30 2017:

Daily Mail seeks out opinion of an artist (?) expressing the opinion that puberty blockers are bad “because sterilisation.”

The Daily Mail, October 1 2017:

Preserving fertility of trans teenagers is bad because it’s “too expensive.”

This is why I don’t play optics with avowed trans-antagonists. There is no way for me to please the Daily Fail except to fucking die so they can sell magazines about why I should be locked up with men in prison.

Fuck off you poncy fascist sockpuppets.

Why are so many fucks given about who can have babies and who cannot? Last I checked, humans were demonstrating no problems with fecundity at all.

Since the concern is that trans teenagers are “too expensive” I expect they’re very very concerned about alcohol and tobacco and bad driving, right? Because if it’s just about money then that’s where the cost/benefit analysis leads us.

Preserving ANYONE’S fertility shouldn’t be a priority! There’s too many people already, and for those who want to be parents, there are literally hundreds of thousands of children in the US alone waiting for a forever family.

I actually was initially moved to make a comment somewhat similar to WMDKitty’s … but now I can’t.

Yes, I believe that having a genetic link to your children is a luxury, but maybe that’s about coming of age as a queer woman and having my own kids to whom I’m not genetically related. On the other hand, we pay for mental health care. If there are people who are concerned about having that relationship to their future children, and if this treatment significantly eases anxieties as they go through other treatments that, let’s be honest, are hugely consequential and take a lot of work on the part of the patient even though the treatments are highly desirable, then the treatments may be revenue-neutral or revenue positive … and even if they weren’t, fuck it. It’s a good thing if society can afford those treatments for those who need them.

I agree that social change needs to happen so that fewer people feel strongly about producing a bunch of kids that share their genetic material. Strictly speaking, I don’t think this freezing sperm or eggs is always needful. But fuck it – isn’t it better that a society can do what is desirable but not needful for its sick, anxious, or marginalized members?

Fund this with the same priority that you would fund treatment for depression for those folks who don’t have a history of suicide attempts.

This was more about demonstrating double standards as evidence of bad faith than it was about reproduction, specifically.

If we could defund the fucking nukes, there’d be so much money we’d be arguing about who was going to carry the gym bags of money …
I agree with you, with the proviso that it’s mega-sad we even have this discussion. Though I suspect that even if there were all the funding in the world, there would still be ‘hitches’ thrown in the way of LGBTQ and WOC. Because freedom.
