Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more
Id love to change the world
But I dont know what to do
So Ill leave it up to you
Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, monopoly
Id love to change the world
But I dont know what to do
So Ill leave it up to you
World pollution, theres no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war
Id love to change the world
But I dont know what to do
So Ill leave it up to you (more)
– Ten Years After.
Marcus Ranum says
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more
Why on earth would anyone want to keep the rich?

Had I written the song I would have said ” ’til there are no POOR no more.”
Caine says
Derek, it was the 1970s, we were optimistic in those days, we actually thought we could eliminate poverty, primarily by eliminating the rich. It’s the filthy rich, y’see, who are the problem. They were a problem then, but nothing compared to now. It’s the rich who have an dedicated interest in keeping people poor. Focusing on the poor as a problem is the wrong way to view things.

So much good music came out of that era. I appreciate you highlighting some of the best. The message flows right into the times we are seeing now. Resistance and popular culture can and does make a difference.

Thanks! There will be more. :) A whole lot of ’60s and ’70s protest music seems prescient now.
