Vincent Schilling at ICTMN would like to see eight native style characters in Pokémon Go.
Native Land Take Backer-FrumU.
He may look like the original Pikachu, but don’t be fooled, this character has the power to reclaim any former Native land (essentially all land) and have it become Native land once again… bye-bye tall building behind him in that photo!
FryBread Thrower-Oopa.
Not to be confused with the ‘Hoopa” character, this is FryBread Thrower-Oopa – who can only be found on the Rez, hiding among Bluebird flour bags. He can take down an army of Pokémon Go turtles by flinging his frybread that was left out a little too long. Even a quick microwave doesn’t soften these circular discs of carnage. Although they can still be eaten with a bit of maple syrup.
You can see and read about the remaining Native style characters at ICTMN. Unlike the rest of the world, I haven’t played this, but these characters could change that.

I’m pretty sure half the jokes went over my head, but I still laughed my ass off.
Caine says
:D
Well, the three sisters are corn, squash and beans. Plant together, eat together.
rq says
Oh, that one. Ha! One Sister… Well, it all started with the frybread left out too long (but can still be eaten!), then the aggressive separation… the dog one is just a lot of cute, but it was the Emcee NoGood Replace-Ohroo and the Fish Lip Pointer Enit-Cheekoo (seriously?? nearly died) where, while funny on their own, I’m missing more than half the subtext.
Caine says
rq:
Oh, well, the emcee thing, that’s pure wacipi (pow wow). A lot of the time when the emcee is away for some reason, whoever takes over is really, really bad, tries to joke, fails, and spends a lot of time saying how the emcee will be back, because their efforts are just one bomb after another. I’ve often noticed that when the original emcee is away, there’s kind of an avoidance scuffle in the announcement platform, as you watch people trying to back away from the microphone.
And fish lips, oh everyone knows a fish lips! There’s always one person who can effectively talk and point via pursing their mouth better than a carp can. A fish lips person often figures in indigenous cartoons. :D
rq says
I’m sure glad I work alone in the evenings, because every time I read this phrase (“fish lips”) and associated commentary, I break down into giggles. It’s the mental image. Better than a carp can…
Thanks for the emcee explanation, I’d probably have to see that in action in order to understand it 100%, but it makes a bit more sense now!
Caine says
Or, on the emcee thing, someone happily grabs the mic, and proceeds to tell the worst jokes and stories you have ever fucking heard.
Fish lips, I can do pretty good fish lips myself, when I don’t feel like talking. :D
rq says
:D
I see I have a skill to develop.

The mildly deranged penguin points out you don’t need to limit yerself to lips, or to fish, for sushi.
