Gout was generally considered to a disease of the rich, all that food and drink, and yes, weight gain. I know for a long time, it was basically dismissed, considered to be one of those “hey, your fault!” diseases, and I doubt things have changed all that much over the centuries.
I only ever have gout attack in my right toe when I drink wine to excess (like, half a liter or more in one evening). One more reason to be near teatotaler for me.
