    Yes.
    It actually feels worse than that, though I have found that you can simply go into psychological denial of it, which can cause your doctor to say you may be a psychopath. In other words, it has complicated side-effects.

    This is the one you remembered and described to me. I was happy to find it, I think it’s a particularly apt description of the pain involved. Gout was generally considered to a disease of the rich, all that food and drink, and yes, weight gain. I know for a long time, it was basically dismissed, considered to be one of those “hey, your fault!” diseases, and I doubt things have changed all that much over the centuries.

    I only ever have gout attack in my right toe when I drink wine to excess (like, half a liter or more in one evening). One more reason to be near teatotaler for me.
