The colours of the pansy flowers give this quite a different feel compared with other fleurs animées. Pansy (and also the related viola) is orvokki in finnish and Orvokki is also a woman’s name. Most of the well-known ones were born 1920-40s.
Pansies have quite an extensive history. Reading about it yesterday, I got a bit of a shock when I read that Margaret Mitchell had planned on naming her “heroine” Pansy O’Hara, and decided on Scarlett at the last minute. I’m grateful for that, because I really like pansies.
