Hate by State.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has a nice interactive map, showing all the organized hate groups by state. Check and see how surrounded you are. Two in ND. The one I knew about, because the asshole bought up a dead town not too far from us, and right on the doorstep of a rez, trying to set up a nazi town eden. It hasn’t worked out great, but they’re still there. Didn’t know about the one in Grand Forks.

Nothing here in Lake County, IL, but I’m surrounded further out by Chicago area (7) and Milwaukee (4).
Interesting that one of the Chicago sites was a Black Separatist book store on the south side.

North Carolina: Karolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and Ku Klos Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
When three or four Ks just ain’t enough, goddammit!

And there are 27 other hate groups in my state. Such diversity!

Was that the guy who it turned out got some kind of blood test that showed he had a certain percentage of black blood? If so, I remember laughing heartily at that.

That rings a vague bell, but I don’t know if it was Cobb or not. He made a mistake thinking he could set up in Leith, there was a big protest, and the Lakota Grandmothers showed up, stole his nazi flag. You don’t go thinking you’re gonna take on the Lakota Grandmothers and win.

Apparently, yes. From the Encyclopedia of American Loons:

    #1472: Craig Paul Cobb

Craig Paul Cobb is the white supremacist that operates the video sharing website Podblanc. Cobb claims racism is my religion, advocates racial holy war in accordance with the tenets of The Creativity Movement [who describe themselves as White Racial Loyalists –blf], and is particularly notorious for his celebration of violence and murder committed against minorities. Hate crimes? No; words like “hate crime” — and “gay” — were devised by Jews to oppress whites, according to Cobb. So there.

He is way most famous, though, for his bizarre campaign to dominate the hamlet of Leith, North Dakota […].

Cobb’s plans failed, and he was eventually arrested in 2013 for terrorizing his neighborhood. While in prison he refused food because he was practicing mahasamadhi and believed he would leave his physical body for another “plane of existence” at Yuletide. […]

According to the comments, “Cobb himself was revealed to be 14% Sub-Saharan African after a DNA test on some daytime talk show [The Trisha Goddard Show, according to Ye Pffft! of All Knowledge].”

And (also from Ye Pffft!…), “In 2015, Cobb attempted to purchase $10,000 worth of property in Antler, North Dakota, in an attempt to take over the town and rename it Creativity Trump, a reference to Donald Trump, whom Cobb says he admires.”

That attempt apparently failed, so then the kook tried again, “In 2015, Cobb purchased three foreclosed properties [in Nebraska]. He stated that these purchases were part of another plan to establish an all-white community. A local court blocked the sale after nearby town residents were able to pay the back taxes for the properties.”

Nothing in my region within a 45 minute drive. That said, holy shit fuck the TN/NC border; that’s a lot of Klan factions. No wonder I felt itchy driving the kids to Dollywood. Also, don’t go south. Or west. Or east. Really, just stay home. I count 23 hate groups in NC, more than four dozen within a half day’s drive.

My home region back west has a whopping one hate-radio station, ironically located in a new agey town full of CA .com retirees and artsy people. I find myself suddenly home sick.

Wow. Three groups in my state! My state is pretty big and you could lose some of the eastern states in it but STILL. For crying out loud.

I had thought it was “only” one and even one is too many. But THREE!?? Yikes.

Nice, one of the cities I lived in has an anti-Muslim group (Islam: Making a True Difference in the World: One Body at a Time). Guess it makes sense how that restaurant always had a crowd.

(What a ridiculous name for a group. Even the acronym will be too long.)

    Onamission5 @10:
Actually, there are 29 hate groups listed for North Carolina. You don’t even have to count them manually as they are all listed in the sidebar on the right-hand side when you select the state from the drop-down box at the top. Some of them overlap, so that is probably why you missed a few.
