At first, I thought I am just tired from heavy work. Then I thought I got a mild strep throat infection and bronchitis from exposure to cold (something that I have always been susceptible to). It lasted from Friday to Sunday, yesterday I was almost completely symptom-free and today as well.
I have bought and made a Covid self-test today nevertheless and it turned out positive. So although I no longer have any symptoms, I very probably did/do have Covid, in all probability Omicron. My parents were due a visit to an orthopedist on Thursday, they will have to postpone it now. My mother probably has it too, she does have a sore throat and a cough, although no fever so far. My father thus almost inevitably has it by now as well. I really do hope they will too only have a mild case. They usually do fare better than I for some reason, and they fared better after the vaccine and both boosters too. But there are no guarantees with illnesses and Covid is no exception.
There are only two instances where I could get infected recently – during one of my bi-weekly shopping trips or during a dental visit last Monday. The dental visit seems a more likely culprit to my mind, although during the shopping I did of course encounter vastly more people.
I really hope my parents come out of it OK. We managed so well for two years and I bring the plague into the household when the cases are in decline around here. I guess it was inevitable, one cannot avoid it forever, but still.

Yikes! Best wishes from me and hope you make as smooth and speedy a recovery as possible.

Yes, best wishes and I hope your folks make a quick recovery. We are all going to be exposed at some point, but with the vaccinations and all we’ve learned about it over the past two years the longer we can put it off the better our health will be.

I’m sorry to hear that, may it go well for your parents and may they recovery quickly.
I’ve been expecting to get it any day for the last two years because The Partner works in the ER, right in the thick of it. We do our best to avoid it being brought home but still -- it’s everywhere, and people are still getting it.
I hope your case is the last one in your area for a long time.

My best wishes as well.
May you all recover quickly!

Hope you all get well soon. Or at least get well, without winning prizes in the long covid lottery.
My parents appeared more or less asymptomatic when we had a video meeting on Sunday. In my usual gloomy manner, I pointed out that we’ll probably all have to get infected with covid repeatedly (though hopefully not many times) during the rest of our lives. I didn’t really discuss the cumulative risk of long covid, though.

Seems like the shopping expedition would be much more likely.
Get well soon!

My 90 year old mother got covid last. So glad she’s been vaccinated with all the boosters. She only had sniffles and a mild sore throat, mostly cleared up now.

Dammit, I’m sorry to hear.
As where you got it, no use crying over spilled milk. Some of the most careful people I got it, some of the most careless didn’t (at least to their knowledge).
I hope you all recover quickly and c without lasting effects. The vaccines do seem to turn it from “deadly” to “very unpleasant”.

Sorry to hear that, I hope you don’t suffer any long term effects, and that both your parents come through ok.

Thanks for the well-wishes. I am probably completely OK by now. I do not feel physically particularly unwell and my chess play, while taking a slight nosedive, did not deteriorate significantly. I have no aches anymore, do not feel tired, and do not perceive to have any trouble concentrating, etc. either.
My mother has a slight cough and sniffles, but no fever so far at all. She says she does not feel particularly unwell but she is not particularly trustworthy with that. She had a positive self-test too so she definitively has it. Our GP prescribed her some meds and comes in on Friday to check her, assuming her condition does not deteriorate so fast that we would have to call an ambulance. My father has no symptoms so far. It might be that he benefits from getting the vaccine as the last -- my mother was boosted in October and I in December, whereas he was boosted in January this year. He did not do a test since he has no symptoms and thus it would be probably a waste.
@Marcus, I think the dental visit is the culprit because it fits very well the shorter Omicron incubation period whereas the shopping trip was several days earlier than that.

Yes, that makes sense.

Best wishes for a quick recovery and lo lasting impacts for both of you! My flatmate has it as well and it sounds like he got it much worse than you.
Hurray for vaccines!

I feel OK for the fifth day in a row and my mom was today checked by a physician and her lungs are clear although she still has some cough. She has been told that she is OK, the Covid is over and none of us should even be potentially infectious anymore. I am taking things easy for one more day today and tomorrow it’s back in the garden. Bonsai trees need re-potting and it starts to be urgent.

Great to hear!

That is good news!
