In my experience, earwigs would be more likely to drop to the ground than jump on your face.
The painting is beautiful, but… I have been told that roses have a strong scent. However, it is probably in a spectrum that my nose simply cannot sense. I do not remember roses ever smelling of anything other than fresh air.

i had an earwig run over my lips when i was trying to live up to the old advice -- stop and smell the roses. anecdotal, i know.
