His Royal Majesty, from rq: The peacocks at the zoo regularly escape their enclosure and wander among us mortals. This one was hanging with the giraffes. Click for full size, such magnificence!
Their cry is something else. When we lived in SLC, we weren’t far from the park aviary. Peacock cries carry a long way. Which makes me remember that a teenager broke into that aviary and fucked a peahen to death.

Gorgeous. I used to keep peafowl… I really miss them, but do not have a proper aviary for them and you really need one to keep them safe, around here.
@Caine: I remember that aviary! I used to go to it nearly every weekend. Loved their birds.
Don’t ask me. He did it, and it was one hell of a scandalous story. Lot of people wouldn’t have blinked over stringing that kid up. It was actually discovered and he was caught because of the peacocks crying -- the racket woke up people from over a mile around.
They’re wonderful. In our old flat you could hear the zoo peacocks.
Back in the days of beautiful castles, they would keep peacocks, but as far away from the main building as possible.
Such the fancy-pants!
When I was a kid, I really freaked out from a peacock’s cry -- I thought it was someone being hurt. WTG evolution!

It’s a beautiful aviary, I hope it’s still there. We went walking there at least once a week.
