If the counterculture of the 1960s and ’70s had an anthem, this was it. Written by John Phillips, performed by Scott McKenzie. I’d say it’s past time a counterculture rose again, a whole generation with a new explanation.
If you’re going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear
Some flowers in your hair
If you’re going to San Francisco
You’re gonna meet
Some gentle people there
For those who come
To San Francisco
Summertime
Will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people
With flowers in their hair
All across the nation
Such a strange vibration
People in motion
There’s a whole generation
With a new explanation
People in motion
People in motion
For those who come
To San Francisco
Be sure to wear
Some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime
Will be a love-in there
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime
Will be a love-in there
– John Phillips.
So you can’t build a counterculture in one day. You can start by signing a letter. Pass it on.
Giliell, professional cynic -Ilk- says
It’s too bad that many of the people who probably still listen to that turned around and voted Trump while blaming millenials for everything.
It’s not something unique to the USA, though. In Germany ’68ers turned fascist is a thing, too. Apparently they weren’t actually protesting abuse of power, just that they weren’t the ones abusing it.

Giliell:
Yeah, that’s a serious problem with us humans.
Marcus Ranum says
A 60s-style movement toward protest, anti-war, and civil unrest -- it’s past time.
Caine says
Yeah, it’s way past time. And I see a lot of us old school hippies at the protests, but it’s time for the younger generations to step up and pave the way for the future.
