James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, has decided to add yet another terrifying screed to the growing pile of Christian hate and panic over transgender rights. It’s tempting to simply poke at such rhetoric, and while it is ripe for mockery, too many people actually listen to people like Dobson, and Dobson thinks a gun might be the answer. There’s always someone willing to pick a gun up here in uStates.
…Obama, acting like a king, is wielding dictatorial powers never envisioned in the law. He is determined to change the way males and females relate to one another, and worse, how children perceive themselves. If you are a married man with any gumption, surely you will defend your wife’s privacy and security in restroom facilities. Would you remain passive after knowing that a strange-looking man, dressed like a woman, has been peering over toilet cubicles to watch your wife in a private moment? What should be done to the pervert who was using mirrors to watch women and girls in their stalls? If you are a dad, I pray you will protect your little girls from men who walk in unannounced, unzip their pants and urinate in front of them. If this had happened 100 years ago, someone might have been shot. Where is today’s manhood? God help us!…
Dobson has the sense to frame the gun part as a lament, “oh, if this were in the past, we could just kill the varmints!”, a way to cover himself when some committed Christian out there decides packin’ a pistol in a pee station is a great idea, and finds reason to use it. This is highly inflammatory rhetoric, and it’s being shouted from all sides.

So, is he advising married men to go into women’s bathrooms with their wives? Won’t that exacerbate the problem?
People peering over toilet cubicles and using mirrors to watch people in stalls is already illegal. Transgender people are not the ones committing those acts.
As a general rule, men have the courtesy, even in the men’s bathroom, to actually use a urinal or a stall instead of just unzipping and urinating in front of other people. Those christians have some weird ideas about bathroom protocols!

Extrajudicial assassinations: check
Ignoring War Powers Act: check
Oddly, both things the christian right doesn’t mind: check
He is determined to change the way males and females relate to one another, and worse, how children perceive themselves.
Probably true: check
He appears to not want gender-based abuse. That is “changing the way males and females relate to eachother” in the broad sense.
If you are a married man with any gumption, surely you will defend your wife’s privacy and security in restroom facilities.
If statement evaluated, not true in my case.
But that’s probably because my wife would have left me even faster if I had followed her into the restroom with a tripod-mounted .50cal M2, to defend her privacy and security.
Would you remain passive after knowing that a strange-looking man, dressed like a woman, has been peering over toilet cubicles to watch your wife in a private moment?
I’d say “Pope Francis, what are you doing?”
What should be done to the pervert who was using mirrors to watch women and girls in their stalls?
Ask Gay Talese: write a book about it.
If you are a dad, I pray you will protect your little girls from men who walk in unannounced, unzip their pants and urinate in front of them.
I’d wonder why my little girl was in a men’s restroom. Are there urinals in women’s restrooms? I haven’t been in one lately, but the last time I was, it was all stalls. It sounds like Dobson hasn’t been in a women’s restroom for a while, either. Maybe he should ask for a tour.
I’d also ask my little girl why she was staring at someone else while they were doing their business. That kind of behavior is kind of creepy.
Although, anyone who’s ever walked a dog or ridden a horse or pretty much any other animal with a penis has had the experience of seeing a suddenly produced penis and stream of urine. My eyes still have not burst into flame from the sight but it could still happen.
If this had happened 100 years ago, someone might have been shot.
Dobson has obviously never worked in a field in his life.
He should try that, too.

I can’t figure out if this is a threat, an incitement to violence, or just a yearning for the “good old days” when white men could go around shooting any “lesser being” consequence free. Perhaps all of the above.

The thing is: Dobson can’t recognize a woman when he sees one.

Of course not. They’re kept in the back with the slaves, goats, pigs, and other unfortunately necessary but messy and inconvenient things. Not a place for a man of sky faeries, or indeed any real man.
