One of the recent “fixes”, aka fuck-ups we have to live with, is that any comment on a post older than 2 weeks won’t show on the recent comments list on the sidebar, so…do you all want to live with no comments showing for TNET, or a new thread every two weeks?

Is there a solution to this other than just to live with it?
BTW, I am also unable to subscribe to a thread to receive e-mail notification.
Anne, Cranky Cat Lady says
I can’t subscribe to get comments either, or rather, I subscribe but get no comment emails at all at all. I drop by the thread when I remember. So do whatever is easiest for you, I think.

I have no opinion either way. But an observation: Whilst, in practice, the problem mostly only affects TNET (here, the other obvious problematic thread is poopyhead’s Political Madness All the Time), it is not limited to that (or similar) threads. It affects any thread (still open for comments) which is more than two weeks old. This means that adding a comment (update) to an “older” thread does not show up (in the sidebar (or by e-mail)). I find that annoying as it means I have basically a rather small chance of learning about an update to a topic / not-too-active-thread I’ve been trying to follow.

Yeah, I’ve brought these problems up, just brought them up again, I get to be bitch of the backchannel, it’s so fun. All I can say right now is don’t hold your breath. I’ll keep nagging, for whatever it’s worth.
I do get notifications of every comment from WP, so when I note an old post has a new comment, I can make a point of it in TNET, if that would help at all. For right now, I guess I’ll just start putting up new instances of TNET every two weeks, because I can’t think of any other way for people to stay somewhat informed of what’s going on. Christ, what a fucking mess.

Thanks!

Probably in the minority, but not having the recent comments sidebar notification longer than 14 days specifically for TNET is not problematic for me, as I just check the thread directly whenever I visit Affinity anyway.
But I’m also one of, like, eight people (possible comic exaggeration) left on planet Earth who still use their parking brake . . . so . . . yeah.
Your blog and decision, of course, but that seems like an awful lot of extra work? Is there a way that we, the reader, can shoulder some of that burden (if burden it is)? If we post a comment in a 15+ day-old-thread, would it be helpful for us to then quickly relocate to TNET with a brief comment along the lines of, “Just added a note to My, How Time Flies if anyone’s interested?” Or does that not distribute widely enough vis-a-vis the sidebar update?
Still learning,
Robert

Desert Son:
Yes, that would be helpful, but of course, not required in any way.

Caine,
Yay! Ok, making a note to myself: If I pop in to older threads and say something, next step is brief signal boost in TNET. Happy to do so (it will probably take a few tries before automaticity)!
Back later in TNET.
Still learning,

The TNET 6 thread appears to have reached its sidebar lifetime; that is, new comments do not seem to be showing up in the sidebar. (Just an FYI.)
