Snow, beautiful and dangerous, protective and lethal.

According to weather forecast, we’ll have snow on Wednesday. As the wind is forecast to be blowing from east, there will be 250 km of open sea for the snow clouds to collect water vapor from. So the first snow may be substantial. No doubt winter will surprise motorists (The stereotypical headline in the news every year).

Birch leaves have already fallen, but maples and other more southern trees still keep some of theirs, so there may be snowy trees with (broad)leaves.

I guess you’ll be getting what’s coming past us tomorrow already? At least, we’ve been promised blizzard. The meteorologists have yet to deliver on that. :)
Winter has already surprised most people (we have that headline, too! EVERY YEAR!), mostly through early unexpected overnight frosts. Time for winter tires!

We had mid 80s temps here yesterday. A cold front came through last night, so our high today will only reach upper 60s. I love the weather here in NC! (Not gloating. Honestly!)

Judging by the sound, some people have put stud tires (probably non-studded winter tires as well, but I can’t tell the difference by sound) on their cars here as well.

Yesterday night, even a “motorized quadricycle” (called mopoauto in Finnish, moped car, basically a light two-seater car that only goes 45 km/h and which you can drive at the age of 15 or 16) with two teens in it rolled past me, the tires making the tell-tale sound “rryrrr” of studded winter tires. It’s a busy time for the tire shops now.
