Paul Ryan discovers Ayn Rand was an atheist .. Oh Noes!

Back in 2009, Paul Ryan, GOP reptilian baby eating loser who wants to end Medicare and send the surplus to his zillionaire cronies, loved himself some Ayn Rand. Saying “Ayn Rand, more than anybody else, did a fantastic job explaining the morality of capitalism, the morality of individualism, and that, to me, is what matters most.” You know already what happened, don’t ya? Easter Atheist Sermon: Til death do us part

Millions of people will be worshipping eternal life today. That’s what Easter is all about. Stripped of all gravitas and ceremony, that’s what this boils down to: we want to live forever, or at the very least much longer. Religion and death walk hand in hand, and will continue to do so until death does them part. We can’t blame death on religion, but sometimes we can blame religion for a death. Here for example is a news report about witches being burned alive in Kenya. Warning: it leads to another link which will scar you. [Read more…]

What do you get when you mix politics and religion?

So goes the old saying, punch line shortly. For now let’s note in recent history, mixing politics and religion has given us everything from the Holocaust to forced state sanctioned rape by high-tech dildos to the 9-11 terror attacks (Hey, those hijackers weren’t atheists). A new poll indicates we can add another item to the growing list: increasing nervousness among the electorate: [Read more…]

Why are you atheists so angry?

Well, I’m not an angry atheist, in fact I’m positively cheerful, especially given my future fate as hot coal in hell –{rimshot!}. But fellow FTBer Greta Christina has a book out by the same name, and thanks to the good godless folks at Dirty Heathen Publishing , you can have it on your Kindle in two shakes right here:

This accessible, personal, down-to-earth book speaks not only to atheists, but to believers who want to understand the so-called “new atheism.” “Why Are You Atheists So Angry?” drops a bombshell on the destructive force of religious faith — and gives a voice to millions of angry atheists.

The prayer circle and the miracle at E-rock

That's me, about pitch 20, a little over halfway up the 3000 foot face on a route called the Nose on El Capitan in Yosemite. Which has almost nothing to do with the story below. Unseen are my two awesome team mates, JP and Action Jackson.

About 20 years ago I was at a climbing area in Central Texas, a beautiful potassium feldspar pluton formed half a billion a years ago, and recently exposed by uplift, now blooming into classic exfoliation domes the size of small towns. In this region there is a designated rappelling rock, a great location with a panoramic view, featuring sheer 25 meter drops almost all around. For climbers, rappelling is not a sport, it’s a risky necessity only done when needed. Sometimes it’s the easiest way down, but few climbers rap for fun.  [Read more…]

Must see: This is Tim Tebow to Jesus Christ

Does Tebow help or hurt Christianity? He obviously hurt the Steelers, hurry! See, when I was a kid, the Steelers’ traumatized my football childhood: I was a Cowboy’s fan. The more I hated the Steelers the more they delivered; Bradshaw under pressure, Lynn Swann snatches a tipped pass, the immaculate reception, you name it. So if Tebow’s miraculous pass brought the Steelers down, I’m OK with that. And if a God helped, then at least for now, that God-eh’s OK with me, too. Which brings us to the Jimmy Fallon-as-David-Bowie & Ziggy Stardust clip below the fold, a must see for theists and atheists alike. [Read more…]
