I’m wondering if there is a correlation between the presented gender of the author and the formatting of the cover image. Maybe authors had as little choice in cover art as they do in current traditional publishing, and I’m barking into the wind.

It’s also interesting how many of the books are (presented as) written by a man, judging by the first names. I wonder if it has any relation to the current trend in women writing m/m fiction on the internets.

A great many of those names are pen names, you cannot assume gender going by the names. Several authors of queer pulp wrote under several pen names. The majority of lesbian pulp was written by women.
