Oh, my beloved Pye, the leucistic grackle. I’ve been putting out bread and other baked goods the past few days, hoping he’d show, as he has zero resistance to baked goods. Sure enough…

Failed saving throw against baked goods. Needed a neat 20, rolled 11.
Rob Grigjanis says
A one-legged male house sparrow has taken up residence in my carport, and spends his days apparently calling for a mate. No-one comes. I think he’s been shunned by his flock. And I think the swallows (who’ve nested here for yonks) have been put off by his noise. A pair sleeps here, but there’s been no nest-building/renovation. Forlorn love has repercussions!

Rob @ 2:
Awww, that’s so sad. Is he willing to make friends with you? Back when Rick worked for CalTrans, he ended up making friends with a one-legged crow. They had lunch together for years.
Rob Grigjanis says
Caine @3: Right now, I think he has a one-track mind. Maybe later in the year…
Siobhan says
What a cuteh <3
Caine says
Yeeeeah, he is. Looks different every year -- looks like he just went through a molt.

Beautiful! And I learned a new word -- *score*!
I’ve had leucistic juncos hanging around before but did not know the right word to describe them.

Pye is gorgeous. And probably has an attitude to match those looks. :D
Caine says
Kestrel:
I haven’t seen leucism in the dark-eyed juncos here, but I have noticed it in Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, and in a number of grackles.
rq:
Oh, he’s very shy. When he shows up to grab baked goods, he is in constant motion, it’s really difficult to get good shots of him.
rq says
D’Awww. But he’s got that awesome grumpy resting birdface in the first picture, at least.
