Good try, Science Guy

Here’s on the biggest problems with youTube in the view of many. Bill Nye the Science Guy posted a video that read in part:

And I say to the grownups, if you want to deny evolution and live in your world, in your world that’s completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that’s fine, but don’t make your kids do it because we need them. We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future. We need people that can–we need engineers that can build stuff, solve problems.

Many of the comments that followed were depressing to say the least. It’s not just that it’s sad, either, it’s a bad trend when a technological society seriously flirts with the idea of tossing the most useful human discipline overboard in favor of fables that appeal to one’s individual vanity and collective ideology.

    Hmm .. yeah.

Scientists put a rover on Mars, the first man to walk onanotherworld dies and there are still peopel trying toteach creationism and a fourteen yera old mentally challenged gil in Pakistan (& her whoel family) is being horribly pounishe dover an accusation of blapshemy over possibly burning a koran.

There are some really intelligent, good people out there doing wonderful things and displaying Humanity at its best and others equally who are always showing us at our cruelest and stupidest and worst.

Paradox of the modern world and Humanity generally.

BTW. The BA posted on this here :

My father ostensibly likes scientific achievement, but he cannot keep himself from spouting nonsense at every major scientific or technological achievement. First he’ll admire the accomplishment (e.g., Hubble telescope, Higgs boson discovery) and then he’ll start grousing about how scientists “always act like they know everything” and refuse to accept that God is the answer to things we aren’t meant to understand. It’s puzzling in the extreme. And very aggravating.
