Half and half, I expect. The second photo is the gnarly, gothic apple orchard (old apple trees make me think of witches), so that one’s intentional. As for the others, couldn’t be sure -- culturally, Latvians live their trees, and treed alleys are one of the standard markers of historic routes. So some were probably planted on purpose, for the garden, while others were let to grow because they fit in. Even cemeteries are more like forested parks. I’ll be going to one of the largest on Saturday, I’ll try to catch an overview.
