The Impossible Guide to the Galaxy: MONEY

Oh how I have been anticipating releasing this! Other than the music, this video is all me, from the writing to the voice work to the animation to even the custom software that actually runs the animations!

I am especially interested in what the locals might think of this, as it seems like it might be the sort of cynical humor that slots nicely into the worldview around here.

I would love a full technical breakdown of this custom software. If I had to guess, the speech is chopped up into discrete blocks, and the associated text update timed to start and finish in time with the blocks. There’s a graphical asset fade in/out action, and you’ve got the ability to slide graphics around.

It’s very impressive. Can’t wait to see it in the wild!

Nice. Reminds me of Marx’s answer to “what is money”, which is actually the first good one I’ve seen, not just his discussion of the forms, history and economic function of universal equivalents in a market economy, but the underlying fact that money represents a form of value which in human society can be traced back to labour.

A very rich person under capitalism is somone who can essentially force a lot of people do what they want, and a rich capitalist is someone who can not only do that, but has the right to confiscate for themselves anything produced in excess of what is required for the worker’s survival. Hence the clubs.

I mean banks and credit card companies fulfill a useful function, but yeah that was a nice and deserved ribbing, well earned for their complicity in the capitalist system. Thanks for sharing!

This is awesome. Peter Jones’s way of speaking to the life, and the graphics are beautifully done.

Beautifully done and short enough that most people will listen to the end and therefore get the whole of it – which is of course a Good Thing.

I feel as if I’ve had my brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped around a gold brick! Bravo!
