So Cooper and I went for the walk at Asilomar and (then around to Pacific Grove, but the PG library is closed on Mondays and then closed tomorrow because New Year, so I went to Carmel and its library. We took 17 Mile Drive instead of 68 and 1, and we stopped at Fan Shell Beach so that Cooper could hurl himself into the surf. The tide was coming in and I managed to get caught by a high wave and got soaked from the knees down – jeans, socks and shoes. Squelch squelch squelch down Dolores Street to Ocean Avenue and Lincoln Stree, squelch squelch squelch up the steps and into the libe. I got four appetizing books though.
It’s 4:30. The sun sets a little after 5. (Which is so late! In Seattle it sets at 4:15.) Nearly time to leave for the sunset walk to the beach.
Yes travelogue. Usually I’ve got nothin! A month of rain and thick dark clouds. When I go somewhere, I talk about it.

Is Carmel a nice spot? I know it was made famous because of Clint Eastwood being the mayor. It’s so exhilarating walking along the beach. It’s one of my favourite past-times. Expect Cooper is keeping you on the move, despite your somewhat faulty ankle and foot?
Before Clint Eastwood, it was famous for being beautiful.
Watch those waves. I got my shorts dampened by salt water once and it boiled my cell phone by shorting out the battery.

If you have time for a longer scenic drive, I can recommend lunch overlooking the Pacific from the deck of the Big Sur Coast Gallery and Café, 30 miles south of Carmel down Route One. From their web site,
The drive would also take you over the Bixby Creek Bridge, which is uniquely beautiful – I see it in TV commercials and print ads for cars at least once a year.

The Monterey Peninsula-to-Big Sur stretch of the California coast is one of my favorite parts of the USA. Fortunate to have lived in Carmel 1969-70 and Monterey 1976-78. Lots different and more intimate in those days, but I still visit any chance I get. Have fun!
Oh, you’re in town! I too would recommend Big Sur. The River Inn is nice too. The five years I worked in Carmel were wonderful – what a lovely little town.
Normally I do watch those waves! I never get caught. But this one just kept going and going and going.
No, Carmel wasn’t made famous by Clint Eastwood. It already was. Hence Clint Eastwood wanting to be mayor! He wouldn’t have bothered being mayor of Hollister or Castroville.
Ah, I get it now… why he gloriously triumphed in Carmel. The grandiose red-carpet was already laid out before the mayor got to burrow his cosy feet into its opulent woven texture.
Are Hollister or Castroville not as scenic… or perhaps poorer?
